The temperatures are dropping outside, and while Garden Office HQ is highly insulated and double glazed, we are finding as the afternoon ticks on we are switching on the heating for a boost of warmth.
Having the heating on all the time in the office would be too much at the moment, but having a system that we can flick on when we are cold, that heats the room quickly is a real bonus. This flexibility is something you should consider when choosing a heating system for your garden office building.
We’ve written in detail about the different heating systems commonly used in office design, but the options are:
- Electric convector heaters
- Free standing oil filled radiators
- Infrared panels
- Underfloor heating
- Air conditioning – yes, it can be used to keep you warm as well as cool
All of these systems will heat a garden office well. Underfloor heating and air conditioning are your most expensive options to install. You will normally find that these two systems are offered as upgrade options. While electric convector heaters or oil filled radiators are offered as standard options.
Have control over your garden office heating
You will want to ensure than your chosen heating system has both a thermostat and timer fitted, most systems will. This will give you the flexibility to turn the heating up and down as the temperature dictates. A timer will also give you a choice of programming the heating to come on and warm up before you arrive at the office.
When we are further into the winter, we have our timer set so the heating comes on about half an hour before we start work, and it turns off half an hour after we typically leave for the day. This means the office is always comfortable when we arrive for work, but we are not wasting energy / money when were not in residence.
Programmable thermostats are a useful feature in that you can choose a minimum temperature for your room, and if the temperature falls below this point, the heating will kick in and bring the room up to your set level. This is a useful feature on the coldest days of the year.
What if you need a boost of heat
As we said earlier in this post, we have recently been grateful for a boost of heat as the afternoon goes on, but it is far too early to have the heating on all the time. Our electric convector heaters offer this flexibility and quickly heat the room. It’s worth asking your garden office supplier as to whether the heating systems they offer, gives you this level of flexibility
With a flexible heating system, you will be snug in your garden office, even on the coldest days of the year.
