"Bespoke garden offices are really expensive"
This common statement is a misconception.
We all know to have something individually designed and tailor-made is expensive - think bespoke jewellery, suits and kitchens. Yes, you will pay a bit more for a bespoke garden office, but, it's not that much more, and you will end up with a new workspace designed around your needs.
Bespoke garden offices tend to be of a higher specification than their more standardised modular counterparts. Incorporating expensive design features such as bi-fold doors. Bespoke designs also tend to upgrade practical design features such as heating. Replacing panel heaters with air conditioning units. It is often choosing these types of feature that makes a bespoke design more expensive.
Bespoke office design is a collaborative process. You will work closely with your designer and if you choose, can have input into every element of the design. From choosing the big design features such as the doors down to the little details of the positioning and material of the electrical sockets.
Working with a bespoke designer you have the opportunity to create a unique building. One tailored to your tastes and using the palette of materials you choose. There are no compromises.
Bespoke design comes into its own when you want a specific size or shape of office
If you have a funny shape plot in your garden or want to maximise the space available. A bespoke garden office design will come into its own, and maximise the space you have.
You will find that modular garden office designers are limited when it comes to creating unusual shapes, or a non-standard size. Their systems are at their best when creating square or rectangular buildings, often in half meter increments.
Bespoke designers, on the other hand, relish a challenge and will start a design with a blank sheet. Creating triangular or five sized buildings is not unusual to maximise a plot of land.
Bespoke designers will also design a building to the millimetre to maximise the space you have available.
Comparing modular and bespoke garden office prices
We recently surveyed the market to see what companies are charging for different specification garden offices to create our pricing guide.
Taking a 4m wide by 3m deep garden office as our example we explored the market to find the average price.
With a standard modular design, priced before you start adding extra windows and upgrades start at £17,200 including VAT and installation but plus delivery and electrical connection.
Bespoke designs tend to be priced by the square meter and asking companies their 'per sqm' price we found figures between £1,400 to £3,000 per sqm quoted.
So, you could be paying between £16,800 and £36,000 for a 4m x 3m office, depending on how many bells and whistles you choose.
Bespoke design prices tend to include the cost of delivery and the final electrical connection in their price.
So, as you can see bespoke garden offices are not that much more expensive than modular designs.
