Looking for a cheap garden office? Well, no quality garden office is cheap, but some are better value than others!
Like so many things in life with a garden office you get what you pay for, in our experience which dates back to the late 1990’s you can’t get a garden office that will be suitable for year round use for less than £5,000.
If you are thinking of buying a garden office you probably want a structure that you can use comfortably all year round. To achieve this the building needs to be well insulated, double glazed, have good house quality doors and a heat source, and in our experience its difficult to find these features on buildings that cost less than £5,000.
A quality garden office is built like a house using the same materials and building techniques as those used in modern housebuilding, but these materials and the labour to assemble them doesn’t come cheap, so on buildings below £5,000 vital elements are removed from the structure, such as building membranes and insulation.
The cheap garden office designs sold in the UK are very appealing at first glance they combine a large size with a low price point but when you look closer are they really such a great deal?
As we mentioned earlier vital elements are left out of the construction make up. A quality garden office is made up of a series of layers which include the main structure, building membranes which protect the core structure, external cladding, insulation and an internal finish.
These cheap garden office designs are often shed like or log cabin style structures where by interlocking timbers are used to quickly create the frame of the building. These timbers not only form the framework of the building they also for the external and internal finish leaving no voids for building membranes or insulation.
If we can give you the benefit of our experience it would be to look at slightly more expensive garden office designs that do have building membranes, insulation and double glazing, yes they will cost you more now, but they will save you money in the long run when it comes to running and maintenance costs, and it will be a space you can work from comfortably all year round.
