What is the smallest garden office available?
We are often asked this question by potential buyers who are looking for a compact garden office building. These customers either have small gardens, limited budgets or are curious about whether you could truly replace a garden shed with a fully functional office.
Normally when answering this question we say “the smallest garden offices on the market are around 2.1 meters x 2.1 meters” we send them a link to garden office suppliers like Smart Garden Offices whose Micro Range is a perfect example of this size office.
Late last year another option entered the market when Roomworks launched their PODLETS range of small garden offices. At 1.46 meters x 2.25 meters it is probably the smallest garden office we’ve seen.
These offices have been designed by garden office specialists to create a highly useable garden office space albeit on a small footprint. Thought has gone into maximising light, workspace and storage without compromising the integrity of the structure.
If these sizes don’t work for you another option is to work with a bespoke garden room designer who will be happy to create a small garden office for you. With bespoke design you get to specify the dimensions of your building – ideal if you have a tight or unusual shaped site.
Could you replace a small garden shed with a garden office?
We have had this question posed to us several times over the years and answered it with “I guess so in theory, don’t know how useable it would be”. It came up again this week and we decided to play around with models to see if you could create a useable garden office on the same size footprint as a small garden shed.
We decided the smallest we could go would be 1.2 meters x 2 meters and modelled up this building:
As you can see the space inside the office is certainly ‘compact’ but there is room for a small desk area and a couple of liner meters of shelf space.
By playing with the positioning of the glazing i.e. using a narrow lozenge shaped window at desk height which allows room for storage above, we have maximised space. We have also used a glazed door with side panel which both maximises light but also creates a feeling of more space internally.
This garden office is just a concept, a test to see how small you could go – everything used in the model is real world scale. Talk to the garden office specialists on this site who might be able to develop a garden this small for you!
