Cedar cladding has become the finish of choice for many garden office buyers. It has become popular because it has a long lifespan and its natural colour.
Cedar cladding has a natural durability to rot or fungal attack meaning it can be fitted today and not require any maintenance for 25 years or so. This is a big consideration when choosing a cladding type for your garden office.
People are also taken with the natural colour of cedar. Its known for the shades of reddish brown the planks come in. The thing is that left unprotected this reddish brown will change to a silvery grey in a couple of years or so. How long this weathering takes will depend on the garden offices exposure.
The weathered silver grey is not a bad thing, in fact some buyers over the years have asked us if silver coloured cedar cladding can be fitted from day one!
If its the reddish brown colour you want for your garden office its wise to decide on this early on in the design process. You can then ask your supplier to apply a UV oil to the planks before they are fitted or exposed to the elements.
As standard most suppliers of cedar garden offices will supply them without UV protection so the building will weather to silver grey in time. However, many suppliers will protect the cladding with UV oil for you as an extra service.
SIPS Garden Rooms are one such supplier. They recently tweeted a photo of an office they built in 2014. They applied UV oil to the cladding before installation and as you can see from the image the building still looks like new.

As we say most suppliers of cedar garden offices will offer this protection service. If you’d like to see more examples of SIPS Garden Rooms work take a look at their website www.sipsgardenrooms.co.uk
