When buying a garden office, many people opt for a flat roof design because of the flexibility they offer in positioning it tight to the boundaries of the garden, as laid out in the Permitted Development rules. As you are researching your options, don’t dismiss pitched roof garden office designs, as the extra ceiling height they offer creates a great space. Yes, you have to ensure the building is positioned at least 2 meters from each boundary if you are building under Permitted Development or make a Planning Application, but a pitched roof garden office is worth it!
While many pitched roof garden offices are a traditional style, a few firms are approaching their design with a modern twist. One firm taking this approach is White Peak Design & Build who designed and built this striking, modern pitched roof garden office.
This garden office is a substantial 7m x 3.8m. The internal ceiling height is 2.7m. A fully glazed gable end coupled with opening roof windows has created a light and airy room. This is one of the key benefits of buying a pitched roof design, as it offers the opportunity for some high-level glazing. Further windows have been spaced along one side of the building which let in, even more, light, and offer glimpses of the garden beyond.
The exterior of the office has a modern feel with its black cladding and colour matched powder coated aluminium doors and windows. We like how a recessed entrance area has been created, and the contrasting use of cedar for this area. Custom cedar screens have been inset into the side walls of the entrance area – a nice touch.
White Peak Design & Build us a multi-layer system for the core structure of their buildings. The build-up has been passed by a structural engineer in accordance with current regulations. Their walls, for instance, are made up with:
- Treated external cladding
- Vented cavity
- Breathable membrane
- Structural Insulated Panel incorporating 100mm of insulation
- Vapour control layer
- Service cavity
- Plasterboard and skim interior finish
The office is ready to start work in having been fully wired with lights and power sockets. The electrical specification also includes TV point, data cabling for reliable internet connection and a speaker system.
This large garden office took three weeks to build with a further two weeks spent on the interior fit out.
