Some of the most successful garden office projects we have seen are those where the garden office sits within established garden planting. This recent build by Garden Spaces is a clever example of building a garden office within an established garden setting.
Garden Spaces customer wanted to create a dedicated workspace in the garden, away from the distractions of the main house. He had a wonderful plot in mind in his ‘secret’ garden. He approached Garden Spaces to create a bespoke garden office based on their Helix range of buildings.
The office is accessed via a hidden door; the solid door has been clad in the same timber as the walls, so unless you are in the know, you would have to look closely to see it. The office also has a corner section of glazing made up from a set of bi-fold doors and a fixed, floor to ceiling glazed panel. These units have high spec powder coated aluminium frames in RAL 7016 – Anthracite Grey. The glazing is A rated; Argon filled double glazing with a Plaitherm coating.
We like how the Garden Spaces design team have lined up the positioning of the ‘secret’ door with the full-length glazed panel. This has created a nice view through the length of the building into the garden beyond. This meets the clients brief to create a connection between the office and the garden so that it becomes one inspiring place.
The office has been clad externally in Thermowood. Garden Spaces offer two cladding options as standard, Thermowood and Western Red Cedar. Both types of cladding are kiln dried so will not warp, and are fixed with stainless steel fixings using a secret nailing technique. Thermowood cladding is normally a more cost effective option than the Cedar, but like the Cedar needs little ongoing maintenance, if you like you can oil it each year which feeds the wood and preserves its colour.
Internally Garden Spaces garden offices have the feeling of a room in a new build house. The walls and ceiling are plastered and decorated. The floor, in this case, is 10mm ‘v’ groove laminate floor in a grey oak finish, but Garden Spaces offer several colour options and flooring types.
The office is fully wired electrically to Building Regulation Part P standard. The system in this office includes 8 LED down-lights and four double power sockets. A wall mounted convector heater fitted with timer and thermostat has been installed for a quick boost of heat.
