This recent build by Swift Garden Rooms is not a garden office, its actually a home gym, but we wanted to show it to you because of the striking cladding detail.
A garden offices cladding is very important as it protects the core structure of the building from the ingress of moisture. It also plays a key role in the aesthetics of the building. In most cases a garden offices cladding is chosen for its durability and colour.
With this build Swift have chosen Western Red Cedar for the cladding which is perhaps the most popular cladding used on garden offices. This is because of its natural durability and its reddish brown colour which weathers to a lovely silver grey if left untreated.
Normally cedar is fixed in a uniform pattern covering the whole wall. What Swift and their client have done here is a bit different. They have fixed a solid panel which we would guess is powder coated aluminium and colour matched it with the doors and windows.
They have then tapered the bottom of each of the cedar planks, creating a feature which looks like the cedar has been folded back to reveal a secret underneath.
We think Swift have balanced form and function here, creating a striking looking building. It takes patience and skill to pull off detailing like this, but wow its worth it!
