Recently, we were playing around with the idea of swapping a window in our house for a large picture window, and it got us thinking that they are not a feature we often see in garden office design.
Large expanses of floor to ceiling glazing have become a hot trend, made up of a mixture of glazed doors and fixed full height glazed panels. But, traditional picture windows are not a feature we see often, in fact I can only think of a handful of garden office builds I have seen over the last 7 years of writing about garden offices & rooms that feature a large picture window.
At a guess the reason picture windows aren’t used much is because of the cost – large expanses of glazing are expensive and garden office suppliers like to keep their prices reasonable. But picture windows don’t need to be huge to be effective.
The thing with a picture window is that it offers uninterrupted views of your garden – there are no rails breaking up the view. They can also frame the view looking into the building as we found when we modelled up a garden office with picture window to see what it would look like.
As you can see a picture window gives you a similar connection with the garden as floor to ceiling glazing does, whilst creating a unique looking garden office.
If you are thinking of adding a large picture window to your garden office to frame a view, you’ll need to work with a bespoke garden office designer who will advise you on your options in relation to size and cost.
We’d love to see a photo if you incorporate a large picture window into your garden office design!
