Swift Garden Rooms start with a blank sheet when they design a garden office for a client, no two offices they produce are the same. The process starts with informal talks and then moves on to a site visit where they can really get a feel for what you are looking to achieve. After the meeting, they go back and implement your wishlist into their proposed designs. This tailor-made approach is clearly shown in this recent garden office building.
Swift’s client wanted a large contemporary style garden office. All Swift Garden Rooms are highly insulated; Swift use a house quality structural insulated panel system (SIP’s), but their client wanted the office to offer more than the standard acoustic insulation. This Swift design team have experience in acoustic insulation systems having designed several soundproof studios, so were happy to factor in their client’s requirements. This hidden design feature will mean that the owner is not disturbed as he works by outside noise and he can make as much noise as he likes without disturbing the neighbours!
A significant amount of glazing has been factored into the design. The three leaf bi-fold doors have an ultra low threshold which means there is no step between the decked entrance and the internal floor. The glazing wraps around the corner of the building with the use of a full-length window. We like that a tilting opening window has been chosen rather than a fixed pane window which is often used in such circumstances. Two lozenge windows have been cut into the wall, which we guess have been positioned above a desk – a nice touch.
The interior of the office has the feel of a room in a newly built house with fully plastered walls and ceiling and wooden flooring over underfloor heating. The underfloor heating is fitted with thermostat and timer for total control.
The exterior is clad in Western Red Cedar. The recessed entrance area has exterior grade LED downlights fitted which will create a curtain of light around the glazed corner. Composite decking has been fitted in this recess. The client wanted to position some topiary here, so carefully positioned holes have been left in the deck, so this can be planted.
The finished design obviously fits the clients brief perfectly:
“As we were looking to hire a company to build a garden office, we looked into a few including Swift. We decided to go with Swift as Martin was very professional and responsive from day 1. He came to see the site and worked closely with me and my husband to finalise the design. He was very patient with my ever-changing requirements and would give us prompt updates of the design. When it came to construction, the crew was here promptly and took 2 weeks to complete the job (which is exactly what had been estimated). They were very professional and had great attention to detail. We are extremely happy with the design and quality of the building. We highly recommend Martin and his very talented crew”.
