Green Studios offer some background to a recent project where they were asked to design two garden offices under one roof.
Dual Office Suite Hants
We were excited by this project from the very start – an office studio in a beautiful garden in rural Hampshire. The ample garden meant we could create exactly what the customer wanted and needed without being restricted by space. With a huge range of garden office buildings to choose from, the customers were spoilt for choice.
What we produced for them is simply stunning, and has attracted many compliments from Mr and Mrs Beckett’s neighbours. It’s not difficult to see why.
The Becketts wanted an office space to keep their home and work lives separate. This was important to them as they had found that they were falling foul of that very 21st-century phenomenon of being constantly online checking business emails and answering calls. The couple were renovating their property at the time and they wanted to take the opportunity to reclaim their home as their own personal space rather than somewhere that had to double up as a place for clients to visit them. A self-contained, spacious outdoor unit was called for, and that’s exactly what we delivered.
The garden studio contains two separate full-sized office spaces in which the Becketts had separate telephone and internet services installed to fulfil their wish to keep their business communications within business hours. The two offices are connected by a door, and shared kitchen and bathroom facilities. This means there’s no need for them to make endless trips back to the house through the day, and it caters for all their visitors’ needs too.
Each office has a sliding patio door, allowing extra light and ventilation into each office. Picture windows were also placed in the back wall to take advantage of the stunning woodland scenery. Can you imagine working in a space like this? The stresses and strains of the daily grind must just melt away!
The garden studio is finished with open-board style cedar cladding to make a visually striking but natural statement.
To make the Becketts’ working lives easier, the studio is fitted with an intercom system so they can answer callers to their house, and a smartphone-controlled heating and lighting system so they can prepare the office’s environment remotely in advance of their no-doubt flexible office hours. Energy-efficient lighting and huge airy windows have minimised the Becketts’ energy costs.
Should the Becketts’ needs change over time, the garden studio can very easily be repurposed to serve as guest accommodation. With two spacious rooms and a stylish, modern kitchen and bathroom, their guests would have all the amenities they could possibly require – plus complete privacy and beautiful woodland views to boot. What lucky guests they will be!
In fact, the potential uses of this beautiful, environmentally-friendly garden studio are virtually endless. But for now, the Becketts have a gorgeous space in which to work, which saves them money on renting an office, and cuts down exponentially on their commuting time. They’re delighted with it and, judging by their neighbours’ feedback, the people in the village love it too.
