Garden offices don’t have to be square or rectangular in shape. Over the years we have featured quite a few unusual shaped garden offices, which have been designed to follow the contours of the site and maximise the space available. Corner garden offices are also often used to maximise the space in the corner of a garden. With these buildings, the doors are normally positioned on a wall set at a 45-degree angle to the side walls. A recent building by My Eco Space combines both of these concepts.
My Eco Space client wanted to create a spacious garden office, but they didn’t want to see it from the house. To facilitate this request, it was decided that one end of the office would effectively have the corner cut off. In practice, this meant that that one wall was set at a roughly 45-degree angle to the other walls. Some buyers would be concerned that creating a ‘non-square’ room like this, would make it difficult to furnish and use, but as you can see from the images of this 4m x 3m office, this really isn’t the case. The positioning of the window in the angled wall makes the room seem bigger.
4-week design & manufacture
My Eco Spaces customer approached them with a short time frame for the project. They wanted to have the office installed and ready to use in time for the arrival of their new baby. The My Eco Space team were able to design the building, have the structural calculations worked out, the building manufactured, installed and furnished in just four weeks. Buying a garden office is one of the quickest ways to extend your home, but even by industry standards, this is quick! Rob & Rebecca, the clients baby boy, was born 7-days after the office was completed.
Eco Structural Insulated Panels
My Eco Space makes use of highly insulated, ECO Modular SIPS for their core structure. Using SIPS panels like this, envelopes the building in insulation without creating cold spots which can happen with traditional timber frames. SIPS are also the quickest way of building. Once the foundation is in place the floor, walls and roof can be installed in just a few hours.
The eco-technology continues with a digital low energy heater which will keep the room warm on the coldest days of the year. You can see this has been positioned under the window which maintains free space around the heater but does not limit the positioning of furniture.
The office will have reliable internet connections thanks to the hard-wired Cat6 data cabling. It is worth the expense of incorporating this cabling into your garden office, although not all suppliers offer the option.
